Perinatal Visit Update

So this morning Chris and I headed down to finally see the specialist.  We got to see little Wyatt for over an hour on the ultra sound!  He is so big and such a cutie!  He was practicing breathing moving around so much.

Everyone has been asking me what exactly the atrium is.....well I refused to do any research because I didn't want to cause myself extra worry so I told everyone I had no idea.  So we learned a little more today (lets hope I get this right!).  The atriums are located in the top  2 chambers of a baby's heart inside the womb.  Since they obviously don't "breathe" yet, there is a little flap moves back and forth with each heart beat to help move oxygen to the placenta.  Once the baby is born, within the first 24-48 hours this flap seals shut.  If it doesn't seal shut, this is known as an Atrial Septal Defect. Basically when the ultra sounds were done at our regular office, they could not see the little flap.  They were able to see it today.  The flap is slightly bulging though.  This may or may not be a problem after he is born. We won't really know until Wyatt decides to make his grand entrance.   We are going to go back in 5 weeks to the Perinatal office for another ultra sound to recheck it.  Both Dr. Ramos (perinatologist) and Dr. Gooden (OB) are very optimistic.  They said based on all the genetic testing we had done early in the pregnancy and because of Wyatt's size they aren't worried too much.  It is just something to watch.  They said that most cases the baby is born and that little flap closes up just like it is suppose to.  So that is what we are praying for and believing will happen.

On a happier note, Wyatt now weighs 3 lbs 2 oz and is doing great!  Still measuring ahead- his head today measured at 32 weeks!  We will be 29 weeks on Saturday!  This makes me nervous! :o)

Here are a few shots of mister Wyatt (sorry they aren't the best quality...took them with my phone):
